Minor Ball Hockey League Prepares for Season Three

As the end of the local ice hockey season draws near, minor hockey players can find solace in the knowledge that its warm-weather equivalent will be starting soon on home “ice” to the void.  Players can switch their hockey skates for sneakers for a warmer hockey experience in the Millbrook arena this spring.

Last weekend, registration began for the summer Minor Ball Hockey league operated by Guye Vondette.  The twelve week program starts on starts April 9 and runs until June 29, and includes 13 games and 3 practices for each team. Games are played on weeknights at the Millbrook Arena, and consist of two, 16 minute periods supervised by two certified referees over the course of one hour.  Vondette is not just the organizer; he is on the floor, one of the referees overseeing the action.

This year the expanded league is offering co-ed teams at the Tyke, Novice, Atom and Peewee levels, more than tripling the first year registration of four teams in total.  The league is fully-insured and certified by the Ontario Ball Hockey Association, following its rules and regulations.   Players required CSA approved hockey helmet with full facial protection and approved hockey gloves, soccer-style shin guards, and hockey stick. Soft elbow pads, soft knee pads and athletic supporter are recommended.
