Owner – Tanya Borg

Tanya Borg started her first mobile detailing business in Courtice during the Covid pandemic.

There was a great demand for clean vehicles, sanitized ones, in fact.  Tanya could deliver.  Customers included young families looking to keep their youngsters safe and elderly people worried about germs.  Then there were contracts with fleet owners including cab companies, police departments and school vehicles.  Spray 9 was the solution she relied on to remove all traces of bacteria and viruses from their vehicles.  New cleaning products have replaced this harsh solution and Tanya keeps current about industry products and techniques through online seminars.

Three years ago Tanya, her husband and four children moved to Millbrook, so Tanya started again, incorporating the name Millbrook into the business name, but the mission remains the same:  to provide high-quality services with attention to detail while completing in a timely manner ensuring every vehicle is cleaned to the customers’ satisfaction.

One of the turning points in her business came when a paving job on Tapley ¼ Line was undermined by heavy rain a few years ago, undermining the seal of the job.  The road surface became covered by a sticky layer of Bitumen, covering passing vehicles including trailers, transports, ATV’s and even some Sea-Doos with the substance that was particularly difficult to remove.  Millbrook Mobile Detailing was hired to remove the oily substance from more than 400 vehicles using a cleaning product provided by the paving company and paid through the paving company’s insurance policy.  While she could only remove the offending oil slick and no more, the contract provided her with a quick introduction to a list of potential clients.

Tanya does not do all the work alone.  Her daughter Emmathyst is one of her most reliable staff members.  She has just completed high school and will attend Durham College this fall.  Tanya also has crews in locations such as Durham region and Lindsay. Tanya still gets her hands dirty but sticks to local jobs.  Her business is registered and insured, and she is building a commercial base of customers in Peterborough with some dealerships and car rental companies.

She is proud to be an owner/operator of a business in an industry dominated by men.  Sometimes customers are wary when she shows up to clean their cars, expecting a man to perform these services.  She is not afraid of hard work and getting dirty, and when the job is done, even the wary customers understand her competence.  She is consciously setting an example for her three daughters, hoping they develop into confident, independent young women who are unfazed by stereotypes.

Not one to sit back, she has also expanded the services offered.  In addition to cleaning vehicles inside and out, Millbrook Mobile Detailing offers window chip fixes, boat, deck and concrete cleaning, scratch and chip repairs and vinyl siding cleaning.

Because the business is mobile, the service providers usually come to the customer, making the retail part of the business quite seasonal with big peaks in demand in the spring.  She also provides a pick up and drop off service where she cleans the vehicle in her two car garage.
