Andrew Kim grew up in Millbrook with his parents and two siblings.
He was a typical teenager playing football at Holy Cross. His parents Min and Young Kim arrived in Canada many years ago from Korea, and for many years they owned and operated the convenience store in Millbrook. Andrew’s parents instilled a deep respect for the importance and value of military service in their children. The opportunity to obtain a free post-secondary education and see the world also attracted Andrew, so after high school he joined the Canadian Armed Forces and completed an undergraduate degree at the Royal Military College in Kingston. Since then Andrew has served in Winnipeg, Borden, Kuwait and Kosovo and is now based in Ottawa.
He is pictured above in front of the Cenotaph in Kosovo, participating in a NATO mission operating under the authority of the UN Security Council. NATO had been leading a peace support operation in Kosovo since June 1999 in an effort to build peace and stability in the area.
Today Andrew is posted in Ottawa working under the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM). This operation is part of the National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces and is described as a high-readiness organization ready to deploy special operations on very short notice to protect Canadians from threats at home and abroad.
