Lots to Learn at your Local Library

While books abound, our library offers activities including crafts, movies and cooking.

Although February is the shortest month, it can often feel like the longest.

The Cavan Monaghan Libraries have lots of activities planned to help quickly pass this chilly month. The Old Millbrook School Family Centre and CM Libraries will be hosting a fun filled PA Day on Friday, Feb 1st starting at 10:00 am. We will be offering Music and Movement from 10:00-11:00 am for the 0 to 4 age group, for children 5 and older we will have a variety of games available at the same time. Family Yoga will run from 11:15 am to 12:00 pm. Lunch will be provided and a great opportunity to get hands-on with make your own pizza. After lunch children can let their creativity flow with an instructor led art class focusing on happiness. Starting at 2:30 pm there will be a family movie screening in the Harry William’s room.

On Saturday, Feb 2nd at 10:00 am our Knit it Forward Club will be meeting at the Millbrook Branch. This is open to all skill levels and ages. Our project this month is a heart shaped mug rug. This project requires DK weight wool and 4 mm size needles (some supplies are available, be sure to reserve yours at outreach@cmlibraries.ca). Knit it Forward will also be meeting at the Bruce Johnston Location on Saturday, Feb 19th at 12:00 pm. Our Sip and Sew club will meet on Saturday, Feb 2nd at 11:00 am. This month’s project is a drawstring bag, which is perfect for Valentine’s Day treats. You must reserve a spot for this program as space and materials are limited (outreach@cmlibraries.ca). Crafts with Judi is back! Join Judi on Saturday, Feb 2nd, 10:30 am at the Millbrook Branch and Tuesday, Feb 5th, 4:00 pm at the Bruce Johnston Branch for a city landscape craft.

Our Toonie Tuesday feature for February is “The Children Act”. Join us Tuesday, Feb 5th  at 6:30 pm, Millbrook Branch. Synopsis: As her marriage flounders, eminent High Court judge Fiona Maye has a life-changing decision to make at work – should she force a teenage boy to have the blood transfusion that will save his life? Her unorthodox visit to his hospital bedside has a profound impact on them both, stirring strong new emotions in the boy and long-buried feelings in her.**Title may change due to availability.

Our Homeschool Hub program will be meeting at the Millbrook Branch on Wednesday, Feb 13th at 10:00am. This month’s learning project is to learn a new skill. Parents are encouraged to participate as well. Be sure to keep track of your progress to share with the group.

Our Cookbook Club will meet at the Bruce Johnston Branch Saturday, Feb 16th at 1:30 pm. This month’s ingredient is lemon. If you are interested in joining, it is as simple as checking out a book or magazine from either branch and selecting a recipe that corresponds with the theme of the month.  Prepare your recipe as well as a quick review of the material used to share with the club. New members are always welcome, or you can join the discussion over on our Facebook group page.

If you are looking to join the decluttering bandwagon, we are hosting the lovely Krista from Recreate Space on Tuesday, Feb 19th at 6:00pm at the Millbrook Branch. Krista will be offering a full presentation about how to get your life and space organized, plus a Q and A, and tips to take home and get straight to work on.

Our ongoing Cyber Seniors will be available on Wednesday, Feb 20th at 1:00 pm. If you have a new device and need assistance or a quick crash course drop-in. The Ancestry Library Edition program will also be on Wednesday, Feb 20th from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm. If these times are not convenient, one-to-one tech sessions can be arranged for your convenience. Please call your closest branch.

As always our Storytime for 0-4 runs on Thursdays at the Bruce Johnston Branch at 10:00 am and Fridays at the Millbrook Branch at 10:00 am.
