There seems to be no limit to the energy of Georget Pounall.
She works in Toronto as a Doula, supporting families as they follow the transformative journey of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. In 2024, she launched a home-based business called Gee’s Luscious Butters & Balms, offering a line of hair and skincare products she developed for family and friends, operating a booth at the Springville Market with her daughter Rebekah.
Now she is working in her kitchen on a different product line: Carribbean food, in a new business she calls Gees Caribbean Cuisine Pop-Up Kitchen. Last month she launched her business setting up a “pop-up” shop which offers authentic, home-cooked Caribbean cuisine on Friday evening out of her home in Millbrook. Her facilities have received approval from the Lakelands Board of Health.
Before she took the leap, she tested the market with a Caribbean night at Moody’s Bar & Grill last fall, where diners could eat in the restaurant or take the food home. It was a real hit, so Georget was inspired to find a way to provide Caribbean food to the community on a regular basis. She launched her first “pop-up” kitchen event during the week of April 13th, and was pleasantly surprised by the level of interest it attracted. Fortunately she prepared a bit more food than her orders required in anticipation of some late calls, and 44 customers clearing out her entire product, to the chagrin of family members who were counting on leftovers.
On the menu are traditional Caribbean dishes such as Jerk Chicken, Rice and Peas, and Oxtail. Last week she tested the market for Rasta Pasta, which has Jerk Chicken as a key ingredient.
Georget hopes to use her catering experience to expand her offerings for events in the future, but for the moment she is testing the tastes and appetites for this new Friday night venture.
If you’re looking for a different kind of takeout food, let Georget do the cooking for you on Friday evenings.
