Speaking of community, at the Millbrook Mill Celebration last week, hosted graciously at the Legion, Celia Hunter thanked me for the “Millworks” fundraiser. I stood up, uttered a few words of thanks and quickly sat down. What I should have acknowledged was the extraordinary community effort putting that show together: the St. Thomas Anglican Church for donating the space; Esperanca Melo and Bill Slavin for taking on the extensive contacting; Jane Wilson and Jo Ellen Brydon for arranging the work; the many volunteers in the kitchen and handling the sales; the local musicians; the donation of wine from afar; the many local artists who donated their work; and finally the “art patrons” who came and bought and made it such a whopping financial success.
What a community!
