Letter to the Editor – September

The Millbrook Community Garden gardeners want to express our delight and gratitude to members of the Garden Club who are taking over the design and care of the center flower garden. In a short time it has been given new life, beauty, and spectacular color.

A bit of history:  When we started the garden about ten years ago, we had an ambitious three pronged concept. One, and most importantly, was to raise food for the Foodshare, a second was to provide garden plots for villagers who had no available land of their own, and the third, to create a place of beauty where people could wander or sit and enjoy the wonders of gardening. The Township staff helped in preparing the land, building the rail fences, and allowed us access to the water from The Old School. The garden went well those first years, with enough volunteers to keep the gardens groomed, provide food for Foodshare, and even stage community events. Sadly, in the last few years, we have had less success in finding volunteers and the center garden took the biggest hit.

But now, The Garden Club has come to the rescue, and the focal point of The Community Garden is more beautiful than ever before with incredible color, variety and care. We are delighted, so very grateful, and feel that the Garden is now truly a “Community Garden”.
