Dear Editor,
I want to publicly thank the local Millbrook Home Hardware, particularly Dave Britton, for their help in sponsoring my project (“The Hidden Lift: The Efficiency Gains in Wing in Ground Effect Vehicles”) in the Peterborough Regional Science Fair. This project was a full year in the works, and many RC aircraft were built and destroyed in the process (yes, that’s the whole story of the UFO sightings around the Jail Hill this year). Toward winter, expenses were mounting, so I went out on a limb and reached out to Dave at Home Hardware to see if they would be willing to donate some of my materials, particularly the foam I use to build my planes. To my delight, they were thrilled to help! It meant so much to me, and was a great boost to my confidence. I had the pleasure of winning 1st place at the Peterborough Science Fair in April, and enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Nationals in Fredericton, NB, where I was honoured to receive a silver in my category, as well as a couple of scholarships and a special award. To Dave and the team at Home Hardware, thanks for helping a kid keep his spirits up, and helping to get his aircraft off the ground!
Sincerely,
Isaiah Jalsevac
