Letter to the Editor – In Praise of Intimate Settings

Lately I have had the pleasure of hearing great live music by Canadian musicians in a small venue.

There is an intimacy with the music, the musicians and the audience.

That informality is a privilege made possible by the architecture of the setting, and the camaraderie of a small crowd.

My most recent musical feast was Peter Graham’s Band at the Mt. Pleasant Woman’s Institute. Here, on a small stage a big, driving sound could change to a beautifully haunting melody.

All that and homemade sweets with coffee.

Maybe in the years to come our new Community Centre will provide a venue for its local artists…..maybe.

Sincerely,  Grace Glass, Millbrook
