Kim Turney Introduces Trendy Handbag Style to Peterborough Area

It’s not like Kim had nothing else to do.  A real estate agent in the Cavan Monaghan area is not sitting around in this real estate market.  Her daughter Carla introduced Kim to this sassy young Canadian company founded by Natalie Dusome, a young mother looking to build a business based on her international design expertise.

Growing up in Penetanguishene on the shores of Georgian Bay, Dusome was not exposed to high fashion style, but found ways to develop her design skills.  At 9 years old she created her first shoe design at 9 and during high school often spent weekends scouring garage sales for curtain fabric to make her own vintage-inspired clothing.

Professionally trained in fashion at Ryerson, she spent the first few years of her career designing handbags in Ohio, Dallas and New York with leading edge retailers including Aldo, Abercrombie & Fitch, Fossil, and Banana Republic.

The birth of her daughter, Poppy, led her to launch her own firm of fun and feminine handbags almost two years ago to create bags that would suit her busy lifestyle and exude her fashion flair.

As a lover of handbags, Kim was naturally attracted to the product line, and was impressed with the thoughtful design behind the products.  Poppy & Peonies offers a wide range of handbag styles and sizes, from wristlets, clutches, backpack styles, totes, classic handbags and travel bags.  Styles are classic and can be worn in multiple ways, with different lengths and styles of straps and customized accessories.  Some items are even reversible, and all incorporate practical features such as pockets for cell phones or icepacks.  Most items are made of man-made synthetic leather in a range of seasonal colours, making the items lighter and more affordable than traditional leather bags.

The playful yet functional product line has received a lot of media support in fashion columns from traditional magazines like Canadian Living as well as on-line fashion media outlets all expressing enthusiasm for the firm’s product line.  The products are not sold in retail outlets but through consultants like Kim who promote the products at trade events like the Legion’s Market and by organizing home social events.
