Keep the Chill of Winter at Bay with These Warm and Friendly Library Programs

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and we have set up ‘Blind Date with a Book’ in the Children’s and Youth section of both the Millbrook and Bruce Johnston Branch. From February 1st through to the 14th we invite children and youth to take a chance and select a book from our beautifully wrapped titles. Books will be identified with key words, and with the appropriate age range or reading level. Patrons of all ages are invited to wrap and decorate a favourite for others to discover (inquire at the circulation desk).

On theme with Valentine’s Day our sewing group will be making heart shaped hand warmers (Saturday, Feb 1st at 12:00pm). This is a wonderful opportunity to practice sewing curves and finishing seams with invisible ladder stitching. They would be a heart (and hand) warming gift, all ages and skill levels are invited to participate. Also, our Community Threads group (knitting, loom knitting, and crochet) will be finishing up our heart shaped patterns and will begin casting on for some St. Patrick’s day patterns (Saturday, Feb 1st at 1pm Millbrook Branch, and Saturday February 15th at 12pm).

We are hosting a Frugal February challenge. We invite patrons to participate in a ‘No Spend Month’. Set a realistic financial goal (save up a rainy day fund, pay off debt etc) and start saving your dollars and cents. We have lots of financial literacy books to get you on your way and you’ll have the support from our group to see you through the month. Join our Facebook group page (Frugal February with the CMLibraries) for all the details. This program will take place at the Millbrook Branch: 1st meeting Saturday, February 1st @ 11:30am. Wrap Up Saturday, February 29th @ 11:30am.

Our ‘Toonie Tuesday Movie’ this month is the bio-drama ‘Judy’, which is about the life of Judy Garland. Join us at the Millbrook Branch Tuesday, February 4th at 6:30pm.

Get your game on with us at Moody’s on Sunday, February 9th from 1:30pm – 4pm. Family friendly games like Scrabble, Farkle, Wizard, and Crokinole…come out and connect with your community in the warmth of this local establishment.

Oscar season is in full swing and our Cookbook Club will be tackling the theme of ‘appetizers and hors d’oeuvres’ (yes, they are two different things). If you are interested in participating simply drop by your local branch check out a cookbook or magazine, choose a recipe that fits the theme, attend our friendly and casual meeting at the Bruce Johnston Branch on Saturday, February 15th at 1:30pm. During our meetup we take turns talking about our recipes and then serve samples for everyone to try. At the end many cookbooks are traded and exchanged with all the excitement of finding and trying new recipes.
