The Easter Brunch and Egg Hunt event last month drew crowds who enjoyed a tasty breakfast, an egg hunt with prizes and activities in town.
The skies brightened and the temperature spiked last Saturday to usher in the first Easter Hunt and Brunch hosted by the Millbrook Business Improvement area supported by sponsors Mitchel’s Cake and Dessert Co. and Millbrook Christian Assembly.
Participation in the event was free, but because it was new, organizers asked for participants to register in advance to make sure they were prepared. More than 125 people registered for the pancake breakfast while the egg hunt attracted more than 170 participants.
A hearty and sweet breakfast of pancakes, sausages, juice, coffee and tea were served inside the church sanctuary on King Street. For the Easter egg hunt, colourful plastic eggs were strewn throughout the Harvest Community Park next to the church. Inside the eggs were prize tickets which could be redeemed at local businesses in the downtown area. Two egg hunt activities were held, one for children up to five years of age and the second one for older children. Among the visitors to the park was the Easter Bunny, who was at the starting line for both egg hunts. Some of the youngest participants lost interest in the eggs as they were sidetracked by the exciting playground equipment.
Pam Mitchel of Mitchel’s Cake and Desserts, prepared roughly 1,000 chocolate prizes to be redeemed at the family chocolate shop downtown. It was exhausting work but Pam reports that she and her staff loved every minute of it.
Visitors did not need a prize ticket to enjoy some of the downtown festivities. Stacey Knight owner/operator of Blank Canvas along with her tattoo artist Bria used their talents to paint faces of young visitors, while on the street, balloon creations were taking shape thanks to the skills of Master Balloonist, Robert. A photo booth provided by In-Style Weddings & Events allowed visitors the chance to make a photo record of the event.
This event was made possible due to the support of many businesses and organizations, including Mill Valley Funeral & Cremation Centre, Revive Aesthetics & Health, Millbrook Home Hardware, Hallmark Eastern Remax and Millbrook Community Care.
Millbrook Christian Assembly’s Lead Pastor Kathleen Van Engen was delighted with the turnout, saying “Thanks so much to Pam at Mitchel’s and to the BIA for the invite to be hosts of this great event. We loved the opportunity to connect with so many from our community on a weekend that means so much to us. I have to give a huge shout out to our amazing volunteers who served brunch to 250+ people—double our registration! We love this community and we look forward to many more opportunities to connect in the days ahead.”
Pam Mitchel expressed her appreciation, saying, “We are so grateful of the community’s support and can’t wait for the next time!”
Thanks to all of the organizers, donors and the many volunteers. Sounds like this will be a hard act to follow. Thank you for a wonderful event!
