Historical Society Partners with Local Libraries

On Thursday, September 20, Millbrook Branch Librarian Erin Stewart guided keen amateur genealogists through the steps to access information through Ancestry-Library Edition.

For these first-time users, it was, for the most part, a surprisingly satisfying and productive experience.  The program is available at both libraries and can be accessed anytime during the branches’ hours of operation.  The Millbrook and Cavan Historical Society is partnering with Cavan Monaghan Libraries to promote this free service.  The workshops, when a dedicated staff member is available to help out, are scheduled the third Thursday of each month, 1:00-2:00 p.m.

The Historical Society has also partnered with the library to make available a selection of postcards featuring local scenes from bygone days.  Pick up a postcard from either of the Cavan Monaghan libraries and write down a memory of an event, a personality, a scene that helps tell the story of our community.  Drop the postcard off at either library.  The collection of memories will be displayed and then archived by the Historical Society as a permanent record of our history.

Be sure to visit the Millbrook Branch to view the Barbie collection on display in our Heritage Cabinet.  It is spectacular!

Toonie Tuesday movies are a popular feature at the Millbrook Branch.  The Historical Society looks forward to partnering with Cavan Monaghan Libraries with the presentation on November 6 of the docu-drama Black Watch Snipers, as part of the monthly movie series.  This riveting film was directed by former Millbrook resident Robin Bicknell, and is being presented to mark the centenary of the signing of the Armistice.   It is hoped that if Robin is not involved in filming halfway around the world from here, that she will be in attendance for a Q&A session after the screening.  Watch for updates on the website millbrookcavanhs.org.
