It is crazy how the summer has just flown by! One minute we are busier than ever and the next thing we know, the kids are off to school again.
Thank you to everyone who came out to our programming this summer. We had a very successful July and August with our children’s programming and outreach activities. Thank you to the Cavan Monaghan Community Centre for hosting us on Friday mornings for Storytime and thank you to Helping Hands Daycare for having us every Wednesday afternoon. We also enjoyed getting to go to Compass Daycare throughout the summer and having them visit our Millbrook Branch. We have an amazing community, and we loved seeing so many people this summer!
If you participated in any of our family programming this summer, please consider filling out our survey. It helps us to know what we did well and what we can change for next year. You can find the survey on our website cmlibraries.ca.
Now that fall is upon us, let’s talk about our new family programming. Join us at our Bruce Johnston Branch on Tuesdays from 10:00am-12:00pm for Stay & Play, a program with a focus on play-based learning. Junior Explorers will be at our Millbrook Branch on Wednesdays at 11:15am and will be geared towards experimenting and learning new things. Lastly, stop by our Millbrook Branch on Fridays at 11:15am for Junior Bakers. We will be making simple recipes that can be made with a microwave, griddle, blender, or just by mixing a few ingredients together.
We are also offering a new program called Coffee & Conversation which will meet every second and fourth Tuesday at the Millbrook Branch from 5:00-6:00pm. Coffee & Conversation will be run by Rachel and will focus on interesting conversations geared to help newcomers to Canada practice their English and make connections in the community.
Sunday, September 8th is the Zucchini Festival. Starting at 12:30pm, on the shores of Baxter Creek, stop by the library booth and take part in a variety of exciting activities that revolve around zucchinis and other seasonal veggies. We will have our button maker, sensory bins, and a Storywalk to enjoy.
Friday, September 27th is a PA Day! GNP Reptile Rescue is coming to the Millbrook Branch and will be bringing a variety of reptiles, including snakes, bearded dragons, a tortoise named Archie, and a Tegu named Tank. There will be two sessions: 11:00am or 11:45am. Please register for one session and include everyone who will be there.
We also have Orange Shirt Day on Monday, September 30th. Stop by your local branch throughout the month of September to check out our book display and participate in our craft. We will be decorating shirts to hang up in both branches.
Switching over to our adult programming, we received a new Seniors Community Grant! Building on the success of our first grant, our new Seniors Community Grant will focus on “What I wish I knew before I was a senior.” At our Millbrook Branch, on Wednesday, September 25th from 1:00-3:00pm, the Historical Society will be hosting an afternoon of trivia! Brush up on your local history and general knowledge and potentially win a prize. On Tuesday, October 1st from 1:00-3:00pm, join us at our Bruce Johnston Branch for a Virtual Tour of Millbrook, hosted by the Historical Society. Stay tuned for more activities as we get further into the fall!
Just a reminder that both branches of the CMLibraries will be closed the first week of September from Tuesday, September 3rd until Saturday, September 7th. See you on Tuesday, September 10th!
