Getting ready for March Break @ the CMLibraries

Do you have plans for the March Break?

It is coming up so quickly! Along with our regular programming, join us at the Cavan Monaghan Libraries as we host an activity each day. Starting on March 14th, we will have a variety of fun and exciting activities for the kids.

  • Tuesday (Bruce Johnston Branch) at 12pm: No Bake Cooking Club, where we will be making cheese quesadillas.

  • Wednesday (Millbrook Branch) at 11am: Dinosaur Talk hosted by Tim Jeffries.

  • Thursday (Bruce Johnston Branch) at 11am: Take part in a STEM craft and participate in an egg-citing “egg drop”. Will yours survive the fall?

  • And lastly, Friday (Millbrook Branch) at 11am: Storytime and Craft that centers around St. Patrick’s Day.

Throughout the week, board games will be available at both branches; the Lego Wall will be at the Bruce Johnston Branch and a sandpit with toys will be set up at the Millbrook Branch on Thursday and Friday (March 16th&17th)

Among our established activities that are happening in March, we have our Toonie Tuesday movie (March 14th @ 6:30). We are showing the Oscar-nominated “The Banshees of Inisherin” starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Kerry Condon. Our Chess Club is continuing to grow, we meet at the Millbrook Branch every Tuesday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Community Threads, which meets the 3rd Saturday of the month at the Bruce Johnston Branch, has found a new recipient for our twiddle blankets and fidget cuffs. For the next couple of months, these items will be provided to the patients at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

We are still seeking interest in starting a Book Club at the Bruce Johnston Branch – we plan to hold this on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at either 4pm or 5pm. Please fill out the survey on our website so we know what time would work best.

Calling all Teens & Tweens, actually we assume this demographic doesn’t read the newspaper so we are asking parents to share this information: What would Teens/Tweens (youth aged 10-17) be interested in at the Library? Joining an age-appropriate book club? If books aren’t your thing, we are looking into other programs that Teens/Tweens might be interested in such as video games, craft projects, makerspace, volunteering with computers… Contact the CMLibraries and give us some suggestions.

We’ve launched our “Library of Things”! This month we are highlighting our brand-new Carbon Dioxide Monitors. These were gifted to the CMLibraries through an agency called Community Access to Ventilation Information (CAVI – information can be found at cavaico2.com). CMLibrary patrons can borrow the monitors and see if your house has enough ventilation. You can download an app and watch the trend or just read the display on the device. Contact the Libraries to reserve one today.
