On Friday June 30th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, get your creative juices flowing on a Community Mural Painting. Join us at Galerie Q for a day of painting where you and the community are the artists, and must work together to create a Canada-themed painting that will be exhibited at Galerie Q. Bring your friends and family to Q for a day of fun painting activities.  All ages are welcome and no formal art training is required.

At 1pm we start our Canada 150 Lecture Series with a talk entitled “Palimpsest: Images & Text in Conversation” with educator, writer and photographer Helen Bajorek-MacDonald.  Palimpsest links old stories of newcomers with new stories of next generations.   Every story is grounded in a moment there, or here, with many threads of commonality shared among us.

At 4 pm we screen a popular classic film, Charade, starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. View this all-time favourite film within the comfort of our gallery space with your friends and loved ones.

On July 1st the gallery will host a series of programs in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday between 10 am and 8 pm. The first event is the unveiling of our Nation Builders series. This is a unique and enlightening portrait series of Canada’s Prime Ministers.  This series features 12 portraits of Prime Ministers who earned the title of Nation Builder. Through symbol and illustration, the paintings reveal each Prime Minister’s expansive vision, accomplishments, and sheer determination to forge and unite this vast country.  The Nation Builders Exhibition runs from July 1st to July 29th, and will travel to other heritage and Canadian culture venues throughout 2017 and 2018. These portraits will be published in an exclusive hardcover Collector’s Volume in Winter of 2017.

This event is followed by Our Artist Talk which begins at 2pm followed by live music from 4 to 6 pm, Raffle Draws throughout the day and Canada 150 cake cutting from 4 to 6 pm, and much more!

High Tea will be served at noon on Sunday July 2, so wear your finest outfits to high tea and discuss some original Canadian Artworks. Tea is served on fine china along with hand-crafted sandwiches and fine pastries.  The day will also feature a Pop Up Artist sale that day from 11 am to 5pm with work by local and regional artists with the artists themselves on hand.
