Funfolk Returns

Get ready for another entertaining event delivered by the local youth theatrical group, Funfolk Theatricals of Millbrook.

Now in their 11th year, this group continues to pick up steam, with many returning performers who are happy to commit to weekly rehearsals where they help build sets, learn lines and bond with their colleagues to deliver a cohesive performance.

After months of preparation, the cast of twenty-four local children will perform another original production written and directed by children’s author and Cavan resident, Shan McFadden.  Many of the children have been performing with this group for three years or more, developing poise, a sense of timing and stage presence.

Set Sail for March Break Adventure! This year’s play, called “The Horrible, Terrible Pirate King”, pushes Funfolk’s creative boundaries with extensive choreography, including numerous pirate duels and an epic ‘dance fight’ featuring more than twenty competitors.  It also features several popular songs, including a twenty-four-person ‘kazoo solo’.

This will be the group’s first year without Funfolk founder and esteemed producer and seamstress Jackie Franco, and her husband and Funfolk’s long-time pianist, David Franco, both of whom retired last year after 10 years of service.  Jackie and David will be joining the group at the first showing of ‘The Horrible, Terrible Pirate King’, this time as esteemed guests.

Hit the high seas with “The Horrible, Terrible Pirate King” and enjoy a rollicking adventure featuring pirates, ghosts, sea monsters, cursed treasure, jokes, songs, duels and epic dance-fights. Performances take place at the Millbrook branch of the Royal Canadian Legion located at 9 King Street East. The Legion is wheelchair accessible.  Three matinee performances begin at 2pm on March 10 to 12th with an evening performance on Monday, March 11th.  Tickets cost $5 and include refreshments, door prizes and more.

Make sure you pick up your tickets to see this year’s Funfolk extravaganza, The Horrible, Terrible Pirate King.  A limited number of tickets are available online and at the door, but to be sure you get a seat, get your tickets in advance at Bear Essentials, 12 King St. East, Millbrook or by contacting Christine at 705.772.3502 or funfolktheatricals@hotmail.com.  For more information, visit www.funfolktheatricals.com.  KG
