On the first and third Saturdays of the month from 12pm-2pm the CMLibraries’ Community Threads group will be hosting a crafting bee to raise funds for those impacted by the Australian Wildfires.

We have connected with an Australian pattern maker: Anthea Christian – owner and designer at Angel Lea Designs, who has donated her beautiful Blinky Belle koala sewing pattern for us to create and sell. We need volunteers to help us create a variety of items to sell in order to raise funds to donate to the Australian Red Cross and the WWF- Australia.

No sewing experience? No problem! We will need people to stuff the bears, iron seams, cut pattern pieces, and more. If you are experienced with a sewing machine we would love to have your skills to assemble the bears. This is a BYO – sewing machine event. Not into sewing? We will also be crafting (knitting and crochet) Australian themed animal accessories (hats, booties, mittens, etc).

Donations of supplies including quilting cotton (preference for soft grey, florals, and white) as well as chunky and worsted weight yarn (preference for soft grey and black) are welcome.

The first event takes place at the Millbrook Branch and the third Saturday will be at the Bruce Johnston Branch.  Looking to connect or want more information? Contact Melanie outreach@cmlibraries.ca.
