After 15 years operating the destination store in Millbrook, owners Bonnie and Ian look forward to a relaxed retirement where they can enjoy more time with family and friends, puttering in their extensive garden and doing a bit of travelling.  They were honoured by an informal gathering hosted by their colleagues Deanna Hall of the Pastry Peddlar, Nancy Fallis of Oasis Boutique and Kate DeKlerk of the Quilters’ Bolt, featuring delicious food, live entertainment and an opportunity to acknowledge the impact of this couple on the business community in Millbrook.

For many, it is hard to imagine the downtown without them as they have both played an important role in shaping the area over the years. Their leadership, initiative and generosity have sparked some of the events that bring the crowds to town, including Ladies’ Night, Christmas in the Village and the Car Show.  With her understanding of the importance of ambiance, Bonnie was instrumental in establishing the Decorating Committee whose efforts to beautify the downtown area ensure visitors are greeted by creative, seasonal décor reflecting the pride of local merchants.

Millbrook store owners Nancy Fallis, Deanna Bell, and Kate Deklerk hosted a retirement party for Bear Essentials’ Bonnie and Ian McQuarrie where customers, colleagues, and friends had a chance to show their appreciation to this couple whose tireless efforts have helped raise the town’s profile for visitors to the area.

Bonnie and Ian are generous with their time, acting as natural mentors to new business owners including Kate DeKlerk of the Quilters’ Bolt, who appreciate the knowledge and experience the couple has shared with new business owners finding their feet in new ventures.

The hosts of the evening offer their thanks to those who attended the event to wish them well in their retirement.   KG
