The pandemic has been a challenge for everyone, and as we enter the winter months you may benefit from participating in a program that brings a sense of purpose or focus to your day to day activities. The CMLibraries will be offering weekly activities to encourage social connections, skill development, and fulfillment. Two new programs we are rolling out are our Learn to Knit and our Beginner Spanish. You can register for all activities with Melanie at outreach@cmlibraries.ca.

Learn to Knit: we will provide you with a take home kit containing needles and cotton to make your first project: a dishcloth (just in time to create a few handmade holiday gifts). Each week we will connect via Zoom for a tutorial and progress check in, and to address any challenges. This program will take place on Saturday afternoons at 1pm.

Beginner Spanish: will focus on language acquisition by building on weekly vocabulary from LingoLite (see our website for more information on this digital resource). This program requires registration to ensure our numbers are sufficient to run the program. Tuesdays at 7:30pm our Spanish instructor, Gicela, will host a Zoom call to practice expressive language skills in a fun and social way.

Have you wanted to participate in a book club but there were too many barriers to participating? We have taken away any scheduling and location issues by running one that is always open online. Join our “Informal Book Club Facebook Group” where we discuss all things literary. We know there are lots of readers out there and we want to give you an online community to share your voice, book recommendations, reviews, critiques, and more all in an informal and easy way. Each week we will be listing a conversation starter and you can add your comments and thoughts throughout the week, connect with others in our reading community, and maybe track down your next great read thanks to a fellow group member. Members are also welcome to start their own conversation threads.

We will continue to host our Learning Trails on Tuesdays at 11am at our Bruce Johnston Branch, as well as Thursdays and Fridays at 11am at our Millbrook Branch. If you are new to the concept of a Learning Trail, this program is where we host an outdoor story walk accompanied with a small lesson plan and extension activities. This program replaces our in person Story Time and is self-directed by participants. Please note this program is weather dependent.

The CMLibraries continue to offer curbside pickup. Both branches are open for the circulation of materials. Please visit our website for our most current hours of operation. The ongoing book sale at our Millbrook Branch is also available.

For the most up to date information on events and activities visit our website (cmlibraries.ca) or visit our Facebook page. Find out all the details of our programs and activities in our monthly newsletter available in print format at your local branch or find it on our website.
