Exciting Summer Programming Continues

What an excellent start to the summer! We have been busier than ever this July with our children’s programming and outreach activities.

Thank you to everyone who has come out to either of our branches! We will be continuing to run a variety of fun and exciting activities in August, such as Junior STEAMticians at our Millbrook Branch on Wednesdays at 11:15am, Junior Scientists at our Bruce Johnston Branch on Thursdays at 10:15am, and other Junior Activities at our Millbrook Branch on Fridays at 11:15am.

We will also be having Critter Visits again! Join us on Friday, August 23rd from 10:30-11:30am at our Millbrook Branch to see some adorable animals. We had such a great time in July that we had to have them come back!

Planning and implementing programming often require some trial and error when trying something new. Throughout July, we learned that there are a lot of younger kids who would like to take part in our technology programming. Moving forward into August, our Teen Tech is now changing to Tech for all Ages. Join us at our Bruce Johnston Branch on Tuesdays at 1:00pm and our Millbrook Branch on Fridays at 1:00pm to learn more about technology and what fun games are out there. Each week, Rachel will facilitate a different activity that focuses on a specific technology, such as learning how to code, virtual reality headsets, Minecraft, and Roblox.

We are continuing to try out fun and interesting activities for tweens and teens in our community. On Tuesday, August 6th at 4:30pm, stop by our Bruce Johnston Branch to create a beautiful succulent garden. All supplies will be included, such as soil, succulents, stones, and garden décor. On Tuesday, August 29th at 4:30pm, we will be making candles. Learn how to melt wax using a crockpot and find out what is involved in making a teacup candle! Both activities require pre-registration to ensure that we have enough supplies. If you have any ideas for future activities, please email Courtney at tutor@cmlibraries.ca

As part of our adult programming, Hermione Rivison will be coming to the Millbrook Branch on Wednesday, August 14th from 1:00-3:00pm. Hermione will be discussing myths, which are stories that can explain natural or historical phenomena. Many of these stories have supernatural beings or are about events that cannot be easily explained except by story. We will be looking into some of these.

We are also broadening our adult programming to include a Scrapbooking Group. Join us once a month for a space to get your scrapbooking done. Get inspired and chat with like-minded people while brainstorming template ideas. Tables will be set up with a variety of craft supplies (coloured paper, stickers, decorative paper edge scissors, etc.). Please bring your own scrapbook and pictures as well as anything specific that you would like to use. *Although this activity is geared towards adults, kids are more than welcome to join as well.*

Although we are fully in summer mode with the beautiful weather and the kids off from school, the CMLibraries has an exciting announcement. We received another Seniors Community Grant! Stay tuned for more information as library staff start planning activities and events to start in October.
