Electronic Resources from Cavan Monaghan Libraries

While this is a not a normal year, April will arrive and with Spring in the air we have a selection of book recommendations, many of which are available as an E-Book or audiobook. If you need help getting started with our E-resources contact us by email: questions@cavanmonaghanlibraries.ca

“Golden Child” is the debut novel from Claire Adam, set in Trinidad it is a captivating read using local dialect and idiomatic expressions that transport the reader straight to the island. The story unfolds through carefully created character development revealing the complexity of family ties, and the weight that decisions can hold. It is a heavy but enjoyable read. -Recommended by staff member Melanie available via Libby and paper copy.

“The Gown” is a particular favourite of Karla’s. Written by Jennifer Robson, it is set in modern day Canada and just after World War II England and focuses on the excitement around Princess Elizabeth’s upcoming wedding. Rather than taking the predictable path of looking at the wedding from the Royal Family, this book looks at the lives of the women who beaded Princess Elizabeth’s wedding dress. As a seamstress, who has done some beading, I found this book fascinating. For those who aren’t interested in the descriptions of beading, there is a family saga plotline that makes for fun reading.  The ending feels a smidgen forced but conveniently ties up the story. – Recommended by Library CEO Karla available via Libby and paper copy.
