Georget Pounall has been creating skin and hair care products for family, friends and young “customers” since 2020.  A practicing Doula, in her day job she supports families as they follow the transformative journey of pregnancy, birth and postpartum.  After work, she creates hair and skin care products for her family and friends, and now a growing list of customers.

Like many small businesses, this one began in response to a need that was not addressed in the market place.  Georget’s son had decided to grow dreadlocks but his hair was growing very slowly. Georget looked around for a good hair product to help his cause, but did not find anything that was remotely “natural” ( ie that had ingredients she could actually pronounce) that promoted hair growth.  She decided to make one herself.

She then turned her attention to beard products and created a beard balm designed to soften the beard while moisturizing the skin underneath with an added bonus of stimulating hair growth.  Because these products penetrate the skin, particularly ones applied to wet hair, she was careful to use natural ingredients.

After her husband reacted to some lotion products, she turned her attention to body butters.  After a few experiments, Georget settled on her current formula which she describes as luxury in a bottle.  These use a base of shea and mango butter, which she describes as “heavy hitters” in the skin care arena.  Both are natural products with impressive attributes in skin care products. As the name implies, these products are solid at room temperature.

Mango butter is reputed to soften and plump the skin, reduce fine lines, promote healing of scars and soothe dry skin, even irritation caused by eczema and psoriasis.  It soothes diaper rash and provides UV protection, yet is gentle enough to be used as a face moisturizer or lip balm. Shea butter relieves dry skin and eases irritation and has also demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties, reducing redness and swelling on the skin, even the face. Shea butter includes ingredients promoted on expensive skin care products, including antioxidants, retinol and hyaluronic acid.  It is reported to boost collagen production and the high levels in vitamin supports the production and growth of healthy skin cells.  It should be avoided by those with a latex sensitivity.  Both ingredients are recommended by dermatologists and despite their weight, they can be left on overnight to allow them to be fully absorbed by the skin as they will not clog pores.

Georget was encouraged by the warm reception her product line received last month and her products will soon be available at local retailers including Blank Canvas, Exit 38 and Revive Aesthetics.  She can be reached through Instagram https://www.instagram.com/geeslusciousbb/ KG
