Curious about Curios, Keen on Collectibles

Collectibles

There are those who can’t resist a live auction!  Almost all of us own “collectibles”, and a few of us have valuable collections.

The Historical Society invites you to bring one or two of your favourite “keepers” for a show and tell evening at the Fireside Lounge, Centennial Place in Millbrook on Thursday, April 25.  Every treasured object has a story attached, so we look forward to hearing some interesting tales as we share our passion for keepsakes and curios.

In both October and March, the Millbrook and Cavan Historical Society welcomed people to the Millbrook Legion Hall to recount memories of a specific time:  the era of the Millbrook Correctional Centre, and local happenings in the 1970s and 1980s.  In January, stories at our annual Tea at the Manor centred on memories of the care and the skills that went into making sure there was a variety of food to eat in those cold winter months when fresh produce was scarce or non-existent.

So, now for something a little different!  Just about everyone has a treasured object handed down from generation to generation, or a knickknack that Uncle George entrusted to your care that you simply can’t part with.  Every piece will have a history; a story of its own.

Peter Ramsay will MC the evening, and will bring along a few of the more curious tools and relics he has picked up over the years.  Renowned for his “What Is It?” presentations, he is bound to stump us all with his more obscure finds.

Everyone – with or without keepsakes and collectibles – is welcome to this informal gathering, 7:00-9:00 pm.  There will be tea, coffee and light refreshments.  Admission is free for Historical Society members and by donation for guests.  Centennial Place is located across from the Millbrook South Cavan Public School.  For more information on the Historical Society, see www.millbrookcavanhs.org.
