Even the cash register is an antique at Cove Antiques and Art, owned and operated by entrepreneur and artist, Jodi Brydon, pictured above.
Jodi Brydon and her husband has purchased the property at 893 Highway 7A in Cavan that was home for many years to Little Barn Antiques and its owners/operators Dot and Wes Eardley. The rustic barn behind the house has recently undergone an extensive facelift and is now operating as Cove Antiques and Art. The house is also under renovation as the couple considers relocating here.
Inside the store behind the home are “coves” or nooks, showcasing consigned products from a variety of vendors. Each section has its own theme, from antique tools and china, vintage items, used books, memorabilia and used furniture. Scattered around the room are pieces of original art by the owner which is also available for sale. This speaks to the other part of the venture: painting classes.
Jodi has offered oil painting classes in Oshawa for many years, and is bringing her love of art to Cavan. She welcomes novice and experienced painters to explore their skills in courses offered in the studio on the upper level of the store. At the conclusion of a two-hour trial class, participants will have completed an 8” by 10” painting. An eight week version will cost $140. As many as 5 participants are in each class, each one pursuing their own subject under the teacher’s watchful eye. Students learn about colour mixing, distance and details as they create an original piece of art. Intermediate level courses are also available under similar terms.

Youth classes are also available for participants ages seven to twelve. These offer 90 minute classes over six weeks, and demonstrate colour mixing, brush, palette and knife oil techniques as well as distance and depth perspectives.
For a bit of fun, the owner is also offering to host paint nights and paint parties.
