Computer Solutions Plus helps Belizean Electrician

Pictured are Mike VanDrunen and Wayne Blaby of Computer Solutions Plus along with Peggy Ortiz as they convert the laptop in the foreground from a physical operation to verbal operation to assist an electrician in Belize who lost his legs in an electrical accident.

Last week, Computer Solutions Plus staff pitched in to convert a laptop to respond verbal commands instead of requiring the physical manipulation of a mouse or keyboard.  Spanish teacher Peggy Ortiz also assisted with the conversion, ensuring the laptop responds to Spanish voice commands.

The laptop will be donated to Eduardo Diaz a former electrician in Belize, who lost both his hands and both feet in an electrical accident a few years ago. Since then, he helps support his family of five by selling popcorn on the street.  Last year, Home Hardware manager David Britton made his work a bit more efficient by organizing a fundraiser to purchase a high capacity popcorn maker for Eduardo.

Despite his trails, Eduardo is always smiling. I assume it was his faith that helped him to survive his ordeal.

Anyone who is planning to upgrade their laptop is invited to contact Wayne Blaby or George Obey at Computer Solutions Plus. They will arrange to clean and prepare the laptop for the Belize Project.
