Pictured is Clem Hassell, “New to You” volunteer for over eleven years at Community Care Millbrook.

Millbrook Community Care’s New to You store on King Street sells gently used clothing and other fantastic finds from shoes and books to smaller household items.

The funds from the store support local Community Care programs which provide services and support to local seniors and adults with disabilities.

This amazing little boutique is operated by a dedicated group of volunteers who work hard to make sure the store is well-stocked, organized and welcoming to customers. One long-standing volunteer, Clem Hassell, has been working in the store since 2007, which means she has been helping out for over eleven years!

When asked why she enjoys volunteering in the store, Clem says it is something that she can do to help and give back to the community in a meaningful way. She also likes the social aspect of the job as she enjoys meeting and chatting with customers as they browse through the store.

Karen Morton, the coordinator for the Millbrook office, is extremely thankful for having a dedicated volunteer like Clem. “We are so lucky to have such wonderful and generous people like Clem volunteer their time and energy to help Community Care. Clem’s support of the New to You store has a direct and positive impact on the local community as the funds raised through sales in the store go towards local programming. We can’t thank Clem enough for her many years of dedicated service.”

If you haven’t been in Community Care’s New to You store, it’s worth checking out not just for the great bargains, but for the opportunity to meet and chat with the amazing volunteers like Clem who help run the store.

The New to You store is always happy to accept donations of items for all ages as long as things are clean and gently used. However, the store cannot accept or sell stuffed toys and electrical items for safety reasons, or intimate apparel such as undergarments for hygienic reasons. The Millbrook Community Care office is located at 22 King Street East, Millbrook. You can drop off items during store hours 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
