Millbrook’s Volunteer of the Year, Susan Streefland keeps extremely busy in her retirement by helping others and volunteering with Community Care.
As Susan explains, “I enjoy being involved in the community. There is so much satisfaction from helping others. As well, I get to work with amazing people such as Karen Morton of Community Care. She is such a pleasure to be around, and she is so appreciative of all of what we (as volunteers) do.”
Feeling part of a community and knowing that you make a huge difference in the lives of others is just a small part of why people like Susan generously volunteer their time—the friendships and connections you make are also extremely rewarding.
Being humble about her contributions to the community, Susan notes that, “so many others do so much too.” However, being awarded Millbrook’s Volunteer of the Year award is well-deserved as Susan volunteers and contributes in many ways from working in the Community Care office answering the phone, booking drives, and providing information on programs and services to calling clients for reassurance or to remind them of upcoming events. She also helps with fundraising, line dance classes, hosts volunteer events, and even fills in for other volunteers as needed. She also has helped out at the Community Supper at St. Thomas Anglican Church with other Community Care volunteers.
“We are so thankful to have dedicated volunteers like Susan, says Karen. Susan contributes so much to the community, our clients and our volunteer team. It is a pleasure to work with Susan—we appreciate everything she does for Community Care, she could not be more deserving of the Volunteer of the Year award. Congratulations Susan!”
