This month, The Millbrook Times welcomes back a popular columnist, Anita Huntley. In her previous column, called Babble, she regaled readers with tales of the trials and tribulations of calling a large local church building her family home. Her new column is called Wildin’ and focuses on her foraging and other adventures in the wilds of Cavan Monaghan. This topic may not appear to have the same comedic potential, Anita’s gift for storytelling leans heavily on humour, and in this new venture she will also try to educate us, perhaps despite ourselves. Her inaugural submission is found on page 10.
This paper, and our readers, by extension, are the beneficiaries of the generosity of volunteer columnists who provide regular, interesting and inspired articles for this paper. Anita joins our group of talented writers which include Dan, Jill, Janet and Celia who make this a much more diverse and interesting publication.
Other people provide occasional articles, such as the frontpage story this month which was written by Joan Larmer; Moving into the School Years by EarlyON Managing Director Nancy Hurley on page 5; and the Freshwater Conservation article on page 18 submitted by the FCC board. Occasional articles written by leaders of other local organizations such as Baxter Creek Watershed Alliance and the Millbrook Legion have also been printed. To all of you who have written for the paper, I say thank you, and keep it up. Thanks to Al Steel for organizing an All Candidates Meeting for next month.
I might own the paper, but to me it belongs to the community, or at least to those who choose to embrace it. If you have a story you would like to share, please contact me. Speaking of which, next month we will publish submissions provided by each of the 14 (!) candidates for Cavan Monaghan Council. Hopefully that will contribute to the important discussions we will be having over the next two months.
