Comment – December 2025

I never purchase on Amazonon principal: Jeff Bezos does not need my support, but my local businesses do. I have to give him credit, though, for a brilliant business model and particularly touching advertising. Perhaps the current TV ad which features three elderly women sliding down a hill on plastic toboggans hits a bit close to home for me, but as the ladies transform into their younger selves, the youngsters around them see them as people enjoying the same things they do instead of dismissing them as irrelevant old people. To me the ad is reminding us of what we have in common.

We seem to be doing a pretty good job at understanding what we have in common while keeping the values of our community as we welcome newcomers. Ms. Chowli and her new staff at the Millbrook Pharmacy are looking to make this community their home. That’s a testament to our neighbourhoods. The main attraction is not just the appeal of lower housing prices and less congestion: I believe they see the kind of community we have and they want in. They are looking for an inclusive, supportive community where there are opportunities to grow, thrive and raise a family. On the crucial issues, we all want the same thing. Let’s continue to build it together. Happy Holidays, Karen.

The Royal Canadian Legion Br. 402 Millbrook would like to thank Cavan Monaghan Council and staff for the Remembrance Cross-walk. Remembering our Veterans who have fallen, served or are still serving is so important. This crosswalk is a great addition to the Cenotaph area. Thank you so much. We would also like to thank the Cavan Monaghan staff who put up the Veterans’ banners for us every year. It is very much appreciated.

Diann Corfe, President, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 402
