Come To The Fair!

Concession stand and midway ride components started to arrives last week at the Fairgrounds to set up for the 174th Millbrook Fair.

Get ready, folks the Fair is around the corner!

In the last week of May, the midway and concession stand equipment and operators began to arrive. It’s unusual for this group to have the luxury of a two-week set up period: they usually leave on a Sunday and open up in a new location on Thursday. The Millbrook Fair is the first agricultural fair of the season, so the operators come early to setup and try out their equipment to be sure they are ready for opening day, which is Thursday, June 12th.

This is Children’s Day, with educational exhibits running from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm throughout the fairgrounds located on Frederick St. in Millbrook, and continue to Sunday. This will be the 174th version of the Millbrook Fair, each one hosted by the volunteers of the Millbrook Agricultural Society. Gates open to the main event at 5pm on Thurs-day, with the midway rides beginning an hour later. The official opening of the Fair begins at 6:45 when the Millbrook Fair Ambassador will be crowned, followed by the Impact Motorsports Demo Cross which returns this year and at 7:30pm.

The Beer Barn is an age of majority location which opens each evening at 9pm. On Thursday music will be provided by Hunter DJ Services. Live music is on the menu on Friday and Saturday evenings at 10 pm that have a $10 cover charge. On Friday, Kingston band Ambush will entertain and Saturday will feature new artist Braden Simon.

On Friday, visitors can take a ride at the Midway which is open from 3 to 11pm. They can also enjoy some treats from a food truck, stroll through the exhibit building to see the interactive farm display or visit the petting zoo. The Trackside Lounge will be open from 5pm until 9 pm. At the grandstand the Truck and Tractor Pull begins at 7pm, featuring modified tractors and trucks.

A full day of events is scheduled for Saturday, with homecraft, rabbit and Beef cattle shows and the parade. The afternoon events continue with the Antique Tractor Pull, Open Beef Show and the Lawn Mower races which start at 4pm. Free wagon rides will be provided by Highview farms on Saturday afternoon from 12:45 to 4pm.

Sunday events include the Open Horse show, an auction of the baking exhibits and the ever popular demolition derby. Things are going to get loud!

Thank you to all the volunteers whose months of work allow the community to enjoy the Fair tradition. For more details, www.millbrookfair.ca. See you there!
