Christmas Comes to the Village on December 2nd

Some traditions will make a return to the popular Christmas in the Village event next month, including the horse-drawn wagon rides, the Christmas market, a festival of decorated trees, and a visit from a most welcome VIP.

This much-loved event hosted by the Millbrook BIA is returning to the village this year, giving the community an early taste of the season, running from 5 to 9pm.

While some events are not possible due to health restrictions, many of the evening’s favourite features will be back on the street.

The horse-drawn wagon rides provided by Earle Cochrane and his stable are back with a slightly different route.  This time the tour will travel past Needler’s Mill which will be decked up for the occasion.  Following the success of last year’s Winter wonderland Garden of Trees, decorated Christmas trees will be part of the ambiance.  Five will be set up around the mill, with the others set up in the garden across from the Legion where visitors can snap a selfie.   All trees are donated and decorated by local businesses and will be auctioned off with the proceeds donated to the Millbrook and Cavan Historical Society.

Food trucks will be on hand to keep visitors energized for the festivities, including Peterborough’s Trip Taco and Personal Touch Catering that has been located for the past two summers in the parking lot of Galerie Q in Cavan.

Get into the Christmas spirit and strike a few people off your gift list as you browse through the interesting offerings in our eclectic local shops and boutiques or at the Christmas market.  The market will offer a wide variety of goods from local vendors, mostly hand-made, including wood turned items, preserves, baked goods, maple products and hand-knitted gifts made with love.

After the kids add their contribution to the decorations on the big Christmas tree outside the legion, they can go for a ride on a big bouncy-castle slide in town and say hello to a busker strolling through town.  Don’t forget to drop off their colouring masterpiece for the contest sponsored by Foodland and Primerica for a chance to win a family turkey and a stocking full of goodies.

Keep your eyes peeled to spot a visit from the big guy himself, Santa will make an appearance- not in the sky, but likely at the top of a tall set of stair…. You’ll spot him!

Before the evening wraps up, be sure to keep the best of our local tradition of supporting our community by adding a contribution to the donation bins for Millbrook Food Share on the street.  Get out there and get into the holiday spirit with friends and neighbours at this popular local tradition brought to us by our local BIA merchants.  Enjoy!  KG
