Changing of the Guard at Cavan Chiropractic

Photo Karen Graham. Hailey Smith is joined by Dr. Taylor Bonner at Cavan Chiropractic with the retirement of her father Dr. Larry Smith this month.

This month, Dr. Larry Smith will retire from his Chiropractic practice after operating out of his home on Tapley ¼ Line for more than 30 years.  He leaves his patients, many of whom have depended on him to ease their aches and pains for decades, in the hands of a bright new practitioner, Dr. Taylor Bonner, who will be ably assisted by RMT Hailey Smith who remains on staff.

Dr. Bonner is a local girl.  She grew up in Peterborough and attended Crestwood Secondary School.  As a competitive athlete, health and fitness has always been one of her priorities.  In high school she was active in competitive soccer, as well as recreational hockey, basketball and volleyball.  During her university years in North Bay, she balanced her studies working at the YMCA where she was a personal trainer and fitness instructor.  The organization continues to be an outlet for Taylor’s energy as she is an active member in Peterborough where she has been a popular volunteer fitness instructor.

Clearly this young lady walks the talk.  Her volunteer efforts reflect a philosophy of sharing her knowledge to enable those around her to take better care of themselves.

Patient education is also a cornerstone of her practise.  Dr. Bonner integrates chiropractic manipulation, myofascial release, rehabilitation and acupuncture with extensive patient education to give her patients tools to optimize their health and wellness.  Seeing the whole patient, Dr. Bonner includes mental health in her area of concern and finds the intimate setting of treatment delivery often opens the door to emotional issues that can be at the heart of a patient’s physical issues.  She is a sensitive listener, but is careful to refer patients to professional help when appropriate.

After completing an undergraduate degree in Physical and Health education at Nipissing University in North Bay, Dr. Bonner completed her doctorate in Chiropractic in Toronto in 2018.  She is also a certified medical acupuncture provider trained at McMaster University.   She has been practising in a Peterborough clinic, and looks forward to her next step operating one of her own in partnership with Hailey.

There will be a short hiatus during which the Cavan Chiropractic clinic will be closed while the two health care professionals take a few days to put their own stamp on the clinic premises with a refresh.

Changes in décor not the only ones these professional women have in store.  Online booking is already available through an app accessed through the clinic website, www.cavanchiropractic.ca.   Direct billing services to patients’ insurance providers will also be provided and slightly extended hours are planned.  KG

Dr. Bonner identified this opportunity to go out on her own through an ad in a professional publication.  It didn’t take long for her to realize that she knew Hailey, which increased the appeal of the situation.  With a common approach to their professions, this dynamic duo looks forward to continuing to deliver personal, modern and effective treatments, helping their clients  to live active, healthy lives.
