On Sunday, August 12th, guests from the community, the City of Kawartha Lakes, Cavan Monaghan, Ontario, Canada and around the world joined Cham Shan Temple to celebrate the installation of the last rafter, the last step before the roof is installed. This is one of the three major symbolic milestones for the Temple in the construction of the Wutai Shan temple which they hope to have completed by next year. The temple is located on property that spans the City of Kawartha Lakes and Cavan Monaghan in the County of Peterborough. The temple is the first of four sites to be constructed over several decades.  They are meant to replicate the pilgrimage to the four great mountains.   Each year, the temple holds an open house and invites the public. Interest in the site and the Buddhism’s religious and cultural principles and practices such as meditation, yoga, vegetarian cuisine has been growing steadily. It is anticipated that the temple will have a major economic impact and draw many visitors and permanent residents to the area. KG
