Peterborough County-City Paramedics were delighted by the enthusiastic support of their program demonstrated at their pop-up collection at the CMCC.

Last month, Peterborough County-City Paramedics (PCCP), in partnership with Peterborough County, the City of PeterboroughOne City Peterborough and Windsor’s Dry Cleaning Centre, launched their second annual ‘Blankets for People’ campaign.   This supplies blankets and sleeping bags to those in need during the winter season.  Residents and businesses across the greater Peterborough area donate new or gently-used blankets and sleeping bags which are subjected to a thorough professional cleaning by Windsor’s for distribution through the Trinity Community Centre in Peterborough.

Cavan Monaghan hosted the first pop-up event in support of this initiative last month at the CMCC.  The event organizers called it an incredible success, as car after car arrived with donations.  At the final tally more than 100 blankets and sleeping bags were received, filling up the ambulance which delivered them to the cleaners.   Organizers were particularly impressed by Millbrook Lion Steve Paul, who promoted the initiative on the Lions’ sign on County Rd. 10 and personally delivered bags of donations.  PCCP members were touched to see the sign as they arrived in town, noting it demonstrated a community spirit amongst local organization that was reinforced by the magnitude of donations they received from Cavan Monaghan.

The event organizers would like to thank everyone who supported this campaign. Donations are still being collected at Windsor’s Dry Cleaning Centre located at 655 Parkhill Rd. in Peterborough until March 15th. For more information, visit www.ptbocounty.ca/blanketsforpeople.  KG
