Cavan-Monaghan Receives First Quarter OLG Payment

Last month, the township received the first quarter (April 1 – June 30) OLG payment totaling $87,728 for hosting Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs.  The City of Peterborough’s payment for the same period was $734,414.

Since the gaming site opened in November 1999, Cavan Monaghan has received $61,786,063 and since the Peterborough Shorelines Casino opened in October, 2018, Peterborough has received a total of $13,111,798.

These payments to host communities are based on a formula in the Municipality Contribution Agreement that is consistently applied across all land-based casino sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site.  Since 1994, host communities have received more than $2.1 billion in non-tax gaming revenue, which are used by the host municipalities to fund a variety of projects including infrastructure and community programs.

Since 2017, casino service providers have invested more than $2.2 billion in private sector capital across the province, and has resulted in the creation of seven new casinos, one planned development as well as many casino expansions and non-gaming amenities. KG
