Cavan Counillor Candidate John Fallis

John Fallis

I have appreciated the privilege of being part of Cavan Monaghan Council since 2010. During the past eight years I have dealt with issues in a thoughtful manner. I am also glad to have been part of a collaborative Council that has accomplished much for the community. Why do I want to return to Council for a third term? There is more to do.

My focus in municipal politics continues to be sustainable development, both environmentally and financially. When I ran for Council in 2010 it was about water. Today it is still about water, and more. It is about how we protect the essentials for our

children, grandchildren, and beyond. I am proud that we are now monitoring wells so we can tell what impact new development has on our aquifers. We have also begun work on an economic model to determine whether growth pays for itself, and, if not, how to manage it.

Among our challenges is a stark reality. Of each of your tax dollars (e.g., income tax, HST, property tax) only about 9 cents go to municipalities. Yet Provincial and Federal governments continue to download more responsibilities to municipalities. I will continue to work to convince senior levels of government that our property taxes cannot subsidize their responsibilities.

With your support, as Cavan Ward Councillor, I will continue to work to make Cavan

Monaghan an even better place by respecting our past and protecting our future.
