Recent events have led to a discomfort with the image of our flag for many Canadians, as if it has somehow been tainted by its use in actions of intimidation.
These days, citizens across the world are raising the flag of the Ukraine, now seen as a symbol of courage and determination in the face of a formidable foe. Ukrainians are in a real fight for freedom. The extent of the global support now rallying around this besieged nation is evidence that the world is understanding the extent of the threat to us all. It has been suggested that the pandemic has made us realize that global catastrophe is possible. At the moment, it’s not clear that one can be averted. KG
