Artist Leslie Gutsole-Floyd

It has been just two short years since Leslie Gutsole-Floyd retired from Millbrook South Cavan Public School where she worked for many years, most of them as a Resource Teacher and for a brief period as the acting Vice Principal.

Since her retirement, she has focused her energy on developing her artistic skills which are now on display at Blank Canvas in Millbrook in her first public showing of her work.

Leslie’s medium of choice is oil which she uses to interpret landscapes around her.  She has found inspiration in her travels to the east and west coasts of Canada as well as northern Ontario, where she has spent time hiking trails and taking in the diverse landscapes.    She is taking the opportunity of her recent boost in leisure time to explore different painting styles, colour pallettes, and learning from fellow artists.  In addition to painting on canvas, she enjoys using wood panels as her painting surface, appreciating its grain and imperfections.  She hopes that her works inspire others to explore the countryside on their own to enhance their appreciation of the beauty of our country.

Works by this artist are currently displayed in the front window at Blank Canvas until the end of July but will remain in the studio after that.  All are available for purchase.  Drop by and get inspired as this budding artists shows us that retirement might be the end of one of our identities, it also opens the door to explore new opportunities that might inspire in a new way.  As she says, you are never too old to learn new skills.  KG
