Derek McGrath of Bethany hosted a musical fundraising event which took place on December 1 at the Bethany United Church.
The event raised $2200 for Eduardo Diaz, who lives in Belize. Eduardo lost all four of his limbs in an electrical accident. Derek’s event will make it possible to repair Eduardo’s two prosthetic legs and to send him and his wife to Honduras where the work will be done. Eduardo, of course, is unable to travel alone because he needs assistance with performing most functions others take for granted.
One of the highlights of the event was an appearance by three-time Grammy and Juno award winner Chris Birkett, who was accompanied by Shari Tallon an extraordinarily talented flutist. The stage was also shared with Steve Lynch, Mary and Martha Colton, Paul Hickey, Vickie and Roland of Strawberry Moon fame. All the musicians donated their time to the event and Margaret Winslow donated her maple syrup to all performers, including the auctioneer.
The next event in support of the Diaz family is the upcoming annual Belize Action held at the St John’s Anglican Church, in Ida. Some of the auction items are; an engagement ring, a houseboat ride, septic tank pump out and of course maple syrup and honey.
