On May 20th, the Minor Ball Hockey players in the Peterborough Minor Ball Hockey League(PMBHL)took a few moments between games to at the CMCC to show support for two players who have been battling brain tumors these last few months.
Twelve year old Bronson Baxter registered with the league in December with his younger brother, but in January he was diagnosed with a brain tumor which turned out to be malignant. He had recently returned home after spending a few months in Florida for treatment. He is currently back home recovering.
Several weeks ago, another PMBHL player, another young player, eleven year old Mason Crough, underwent surgery for a brain tumor which fortunately was found to be benign. He has asked to sit on the bench of his team during games to give his support.
To recognize the strength and courage of these two players, Vondette organized a brief ceremony on the hockey pad where the four teams scheduled to play before and after lined up along the blue line and saluted these players with a round of stick taps.
Bronson was presented with a league jersey, and both players received a league ball cap, water bottle and frisebee. Cavan Monaghan Mayor Graham was also on hand and presented a certificate from Cavan Monaghan commending the young players for their bravery and thanked them for providing such a great example of courage in the face of such a severe diagnosis. The players then participated in a ceremonial ball drop to remind them that they are still members of the PMBHL, and this club as well as the community at large is behind them.
