Artist Shawn Whelan puts come finishing touches on a canvas. He will share his expertise at the Bailieboro Library on April 7th.

Looking for something to do locally? Any budding artists in your family? Join us for a Family Fun Day of Art at the Bailieboro Library on Saturday Apr 7th. As well, the ‘Art in the Library, Phase II’ shows continue at both the Bailieboro and the Gayle Nelson Keene Libraries until May 26th.

Local artist Marie Adamcryck will be offering a ‘Show & Tell’ and ‘Q & A’ featuring her latest creative endeavour, a marionette carved from trees and branches collected on her farm. She will be sharing her plans for the marionette and may have some other surprises for everyone as well! This is an extension of previous work in wood, as Marie used to make wood-cuts that she printed on Japanese papers. She will be at the library from 1:00 p.m.
till 1:45 p.m.

Marie will be followed by Shawn Whalen, an accomplished landscape painter with a gallery on the north side of County Road #2 at 3306, just east of the four corners in Keene. He is entering his 30th year of operation and offers art classes and framing. Over the past few years, Shawn has concentrated on national and international commission works and is now focused on producing new local works for his gallery, ‘Whalen’s Fine Art & Framing’. Shawn often explores and records what is being lost in our local rural environment. His demonstration starts at 1:45 and will continue until near close at 3:00 p.m.

While the event is free, the OSM Libraries would appreciate your support through the purchase of raffle tickets for a landscape oil painting generously donated by local artist Marilyn Goslin. The painting, titled ‘Cavan – Winter’, instills a sense of silence and calm and is beautifully framed in vintage moulding.  It can be viewed at the Bailieboro Library. Tickets are available at both venues and are $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00.
