Antique Car Show – July 2019

The Millbrook and District Lions Club hosted their Annual Antique and Classic Car Show on Saturday July 6th.  The Business Improvement Area supports the Lions’ Club in this event every year by assisting them with signage and advertising, making the job a lot easier.  With an 8 am start time, organizers began the day early, and at 5:30 am sky was overcast and looked like rain was on the horizon, which is bad news for events like this one.  The owners of these restored classic cars will not come out if weather looks like it will not cooperate.

The early registrants were lined up by 6:30 am to stake out their favourite parking spots.  Participants pay $5.00 per vehicle and passengers are free.  By 9 am the street was filling and our DJ Frank Hewitt was spinning the tunes and announcing our sponsors.  The merchants appeared quite happy with the amount of traffic up and down main street as the event brings a lot of business to local businesses.  We registered over 80 vehicles, and we cannot guess the number of spectators who showed up to see these beautiful classic automobiles.  As in previous years we always have a lot of donated prizes for draws that take place during the event.

We were also pleased to see Peterborough Police who brought along some vehicles and a Harley Davidson motorcycle.  Spectators were quite happy for the opportunity to speak to the officers who serve Millbrook.  Their motorcycle was a hit and the centre piece in many photos that day.

All of the food establishments were busy and this was a great day for their businesses.  We handed out awards to our TOP 10 cars that were voted on by our registered participants.  This was done by our President Paul Holder and our Mayor Scott McFadden.  Our 50/50 draw was won by Adrian Boisvert of Kendal who took home $410.00.

The Lions would like to offer a big thank you to our community police volunteers who endured the heat manning the barricades and all the participants and spectators who made this another great community event.
