Amateur Radio Emergency Services for Cavan Monaghan

By Jordan Landry

On Saturday, June 28th, the Peterborough Amateur Radio Club (PARC) met for a 24 hour worldwide competition to see how many contacts they could make outside of their region.  PARC members are also members of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service group and can provide emergency communications even if the area’s entire power grid went down.  A service like this is a safeguard to a community.  I am pleased to say that Cavan Monaghan’s Township Emergency plan has ARES listed as a resource if disaster should strike.  This dedicated team of volunteers show both an enthusiasm and seriousness for the service they provide.  Don’t let the word “amateur” fool you, these are highly skilled individuals.  When it comes to Morse code and encrypted messaging, they are true detectives that can deliver a message!
