Millbrook and Cavan Historical Society President Celia Hunter welcomes Archeologist Tom Mohr as the guest speaker at last month’s historical event in Ida.

The thriving Alderville First Nation is located on the south shore of Rice Lake and is home to the largest intact tract of native grassland in Central Ontario, the Alderville Black Oak Savanna.  MCHS is honoured to have as keynote speaker for our public Annual General Meeting on Thursday, May 16, the author of Alderville First Nation…a History, Brian Beaver.

Brian Beaver grew up at Alderville and has lived through many changes there.  His written account of its history gives readers a fascinating look at the challenges and wonderful stories of successes that have taken place over time.  We are looking forward to hearing about Alderville’s unique history when we welcome him to our gathering at the Millbrook Legion Hall.

The Annual General Meeting is a good time to take stock.  It has been a very interesting year for MCHS, and we hope the public will come and give us some feedback.  Our aim is to encourage interest in the history of our area.  How can we do that better?  Come and let us know!

We will welcome our speaker Brian Beaver and hold a brief AGM beginning at 7 pm, and look forward to informal discussion and conversation following the speaker’s presentation.  For information: millbrookcavanhs.org.
