A Taste of New Zealand in Millbrook

This pair is bringing some international flavours to the Millbrook Farmers’ Market.

Lauren Cameron is showcasing some of the culinary skills she acquired during a year spent in New Zealand where she learned to appreciate their savoury pies.

After years of experimenting back home in Canada, she believes she has “perfected” the Kiwi pie and is sharing her enthusiasm in a line of pies featuring unique flavours which she sells at a booth at the Millbrook Farmers’ Market.   All her pies are savoury, not sweet.  Some are for dinner, some lean towards a breakfast menu, and all are homemade, showcasing all-butter pastry filled with meats, vegetables, cheeses, egg and sauces.  Traditional dinner selections fare feature mince beef, steak or chicken with a compatible cheese as well as to more ethnic flavours such as butter chicken and sweet potato curry.  Breakfast selections all have egg with cheese, bacon or sausage completing the package.  Not on your diet menu but definitely satisfying.  Lauren also sells at the Peterborough Farmers’ Market on Saturdays.  You can also order them on line, with a minimum order of 4 pies.  They will be frozen and available for pick up at either market.

Next time you’re at the market, drop by her booth and say “Kia Ora”, which means hello in the Maori language in New Zealand.  For more information, visit www.KiaOraPieCo.ca.  KG
