The next Millbrook & Area Garden Club is having a very special guest. He is the owner of Whistling Gardens, a Botanical garden in Wilsonville near Brantford. Join the Millbrook & Area Garden Club at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5th. We are having a very special guest speak to us. Darren Heimbecker is the owner of Whistling Gardens in Wilsonville, near Brantford. Darren is a part-time musician but was obsessed with plants since the age of 2 when he was influenced by his grandparents. He had a desire to buy a piece of property and turn it into a Botanical Garden. His neighbours thought he was ‘mad’! They have since been voted one of Canada’s best Botanical Gardens and this is quite an accomplishment considering they didn’t open until 2012. The gardens encompass 20 acres with over 4,000 different plants. He has the largest collection of evergreens in the world; about 2,000 varieties and he has nearly a thousand different varieties of peonies. The fountain display features 102 fountains choreographed to music with a feel of the famous fountains at Versailles, France and all the music was composed by Darren. This promises to be a very enjoyable evening and a real bargain at $2.00. KG
