Peterborough’s basketball star Jesse Young visited South Cavan school last week to shoot hoops with students.
Young played all day through student gym periods, often being prompted to show off his dunking skills, before coaching the boys and girls basket ball team for a joint practice after school. They faced off in mirrored drills scoring everything from rebounds and lay-ups to field goals.
“It was a great day all around at South Cavan,” said Young in an email after the event. “The staff was so welcoming and supportive. The students were very enthusiastic and cooperative the entire day, which made for a successful clinic! A fantastic school and environment to be around!”
Young has an impressive background in basketball having played for Canada’s National Team and coached for Canada’s Junior National Team. He’s been playing professionally overseas since playing on local high school PCVS’ team. Today, Young runs the Jesse Young Basketball Academy in Peterborough teaching local kids how to train and love the game like a pro.
The clinic comes just in time for South Cavan’s intermediate girls basketball team to face off in their end season tournaments. We wish them luck!
