On Thursday, September 17, 2:00-4:00 pm, the Millbrook & Cavan Historical Society will welcome the public into the new Local History & Archives Centre for the first time, as part of the municipality’s Open House at the Old Millbrook School, celebrating the renovation and preservation work undertaken with the support of provincial and federal funding.
MCHS has recently signed a lease with the township for use of one of the upstairs class-rooms in this beautiful heritage building. Over the summer, volunteers have worked to move the archives, acquire display units, and curate exhibits. The room will be open on a regular schedule for people who want to learn about local history, research events, discuss donations of family histories and memorabilia, or use the library’s Ancestry program to trace family histories. It also provides a space for small group discussions and projects.
As part of the celebration on September 17, we will launch our expanded and enhanced website, made possible with the support of Nexicom. One of our web design team members, Ashley Beamer, will be on hand to give guided tours of the website.
