It finally feels like spring! Or some days, it feels a bit more like summer than anything else.
The perfect weather to get outside and soak up the sunshine and the perfect time to get some of those outdoor chores done. But do not forget to take time for yourself and your crafty projects! Knotty Knitters will be meeting at our Bruce Johnston Branch on Tuesday, May 12th and Tuesday, May 26th from 3:00-7:00pm. Bring whatever project that you are working on and enjoy a chat with other crafting enthusiasts. All abilities and crafters are welcome. *Pre-registration is not required.*
May 3rd to May 9th is Emergency Preparedness Week. To get ready, join George and Brenda (Canadian Red Cross volunteers) on Thursday, May 7th for an Emergency Preparedness Workshop. During this interactive session, participants will increase their awareness of individual and household emergency preparedness and be encouraged to take simple, concrete actions to prepare for emergencies. Learn the four essential steps to becoming better prepared: know the risks in your community, make an emergency plan, build an emergency kit, and build a network. We will be meeting at our Bruce Johnston Branch from 1:00-2:30pm.
Following our spring themed activities from April, we are moving away from plants to learn about useful insects. Honey bees are considered one of our most important pollinators, but as a species, they are presently under serious threat. Join Lynn at our Mill-brook Branch on Wednesday, May 13th from 1:00-2:00pmto learn about the fascinating lives of honey bees: what we know about them, why they are so important, and what we can do to support them. You will be amazed at how incredible honey bees really are.
We started a new Book Club at our Bruce Johnston Branch last month and there has been enough interest to continue! Join library staff on Saturday, May 23rd at 1:30pmto chat about “The Nest” by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney. Did not end up finishing the book? No problem! Come anyway and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and chat with other book enthusiasts. Copies are currently available at our Bruce Johnston Branch.
Melody will be hosting another Home Alone Course at our Millbrook Branch on Saturday, May 9th and Saturday, May 16th from 10:30am-2:30pm.
